Indoor cycling is an exercise which takes place on a specially designed stationary bike. It is often referred to as SPINNING ©. This class mimics sprints, uphill climbs and flat road cycles that you would do on a real bike without the bad weather.
• As you pedal great music is played and the instructor talks you through a visualisation generally of an outdoor cycling workout. Pedalling to the beat of the music is great for focusing the mind and body.
• During a class the speed, also referred to as cadence or revolutions per minute (RPM) and resistance (steepness) are varied and the cyclist may pedal fast as if on a flat road or at other times increasing the resistance, pedalling slowly from a standing position as if heading up a steep hill.
• Because you stay in one place with the bike as an anchor, it doesn’t involve a lot of coordination, which makes it easier to concentrate on your form and to focus the mind than it is in many other types of classes. The mind-body-bike connection is a powerful combination and a key to getting a great all-around workout.
The HIIT Spin class is shorter in duration but higher in intensity. This type of training is very intense but HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) is a miracle way to reduce your workout time and up your fat burning. Studies show that your metabolism is raised for 12-48 hours after a HIIT session.
